The Third Addendum of the Twenty Seventh Letter (Yirmi Yedinci Mektubun Ucuncu Zeyli)

My dear beloved friend! A blessed doctor, who was enlightened enough to diagnose his own ailment!

I want to congratulate you on your enthusiastic letter, which shows a spiritual awakening. Please remember that life is the most valuable entity in existence. Thus, being at the service of life is the most precious undertaking a person can engage in. The best way to do this is to make sure that we live this transitory earthly life in such a way that it translates into something eternal. For the essence of having life lies in the fact that it is nothing but a seed and a gist and a core for eternity. It would be foolish and irrational for us as though preferring a lightning that passes within a split second over an everlasting star if we were to limit our vision within the boundaries of the temporary existence on this earth doing away with the potential to reach beyond it.

In reality, it is the materialistic and unwary doctors, who are the ailed. They would be able to both heal themselves as well as the others inshaAllah if they could retrieve the medicine of faith from the pharmacy of the Qur’an. This self awakening of yours is not only a cure for yourself but also for the other doctors in similar situations.

As you very well know, a friendly consolation will be a lot better than several medical concoctions for someone who is depressed and hopeless. Likewise, a doctor, who himself is drowned in the material, will only add to the misery of the hopeless patient. I hope, insaAllah, your awakening to this truth will come as a relief and good news for those who need it.

You will agree that life is short and there are a lot of things that need to be done. I am sure you will find tons of unnecessary stuff in your mind if you look closely like I did once. I went through a process like this a while ago and discovered that my mind was burdened by so much unneeded and frivolous information. Therefore, I then came to the conclusion that I need to find a solution to transform all of this empty so called scientific information and philosophical insights into something that is enlightening in the real sense. I suggest you pray to Allah that He help you to turn your mind towards Himself, the All Wise and All Powerful so that those lifeless wood-like entities occupying your mind catches fire giving out the enlightening light. May Allah turn all those worthless pieces of scientific information into priceless wisdom and knowledge of the Almighty.

My brilliant and gifted friend! I really wish with all my heart that several members of the scientific community would step forward in these matters like Hulusi Bey, who honestly feels a dire need to explore the mysterious features of the Qur’an and the illuminating wisdom of iman. Since the book of Sozler appeals to and communicates with your heart and conscience in this sense, you should consider each chapter in it to be a letter to you from a person, who is nothing but a proclaimer and a messenger of the Qur’an rather than me personally and look at them as a prescription from the Quranic pharmacy so to speak. Within them, you will find it possible to have a face to face dialog in absentia.

Please feel free to write to me whenever you wish to do so but don’t feel offended if I do not write back. For I have always been known to write infrequently. I only wrote back once to my brother in the last three years.
